SAN FRANCISCO: Apple has blocked an iPhone facial recognition app built by controversial start-up Clearview AI.

Apple said the app violates the terms of its enterprise-developer program.

Clearview AI was developed by Australian app developer, Hoan Ton-That, who now lives in New York.

It claims to only cater to law enforcement agencies, but investigations have revealed clients also include major private-sector companies.

Its use of images scraped from Internet platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, has raised privacy concerns.
